ABA Young Lawyers to Launch Veterans Legal Assistance Program at Seattle Event

The clinic will kick off a year-long ABA YLD initiative called Project Salute: Young Lawyers Serving Veterans. The concept was developed by the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and adopted by the ABA YLD as its 2011-12 national public service project.
"Through this initiative, young lawyers across the country will come together to honor and thank the brave members of our armed forces who have sacrificed much to ensure the safety and security of our country," said ABA YLD chair Michael G. Bergmann. "We will work to help as many veterans as possible in all 50 states obtain their well-deserved federal benefits."

At each clinic, veterans view a multimedia educational video and then meet individually with volunteer lawyers. The lawyers guide the former servicemembers through various requirements and eligibility for federal veterans' benefits and help them complete applications.
