SPRING 2000

The United States Naval Academy
The Naval Academy has a unique clarity of purpose, expressed in their official mission: "To develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty in order to provide graduates who are dedicated to a career of Naval service and have potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship, and government."

In The Spirit of Bob Hope
Okay troops, here's how it is. You march. You drill. You train. You also polish boots, scrub latrines, buff floors and pick up cigarette butts. Does anybody care? Does anyone even know what it's like to be in the military today? Some don't, I guess, but others certainly do. I recently spent a few exhilarating days with a group of folks who do care.
