Inaugural Armed Forces Appreciation Day

Inaugural Armed Forces Appreciation DayEvent honoring Veterans and Wounded Warriors to include heroes from all branches, Military Color Guard, Flyover, and a patriotic performance by the 4-H Precision Drill Team.

All veterans and active duty military and a guest admitted free.

Prince William County VA. , July 25, 2012 -- The inaugural Armed Forces Appreciation Day will be observed at the 63rd annual Prince William County Fair, Sunday, August 12th  beginning at 1 p.m. in the grandstand area.

“This will be an outstanding ceremony celebrating and honoring our veterans and Wounded Warriors who perform such heroic service in preserving our freedom at home and abroad,” said Ca therine Clemen, president of the Board of Directors of the Prince William Veterans Farm Club, Inc., sponsors of the Fair.

One-hundred percent of all donations received will go to benefit Fischer House, which helps Wounded Warriors and their families with needed free housing near military medical centers.

The ceremony will be highlighted by an address from Rear Admiral Robert H. Shumaker, USN (Ret) who was a Prisoner of War in Hanoi for eight years after his plane was shot down.

The program will also include and invocation, Color Guard presentation, introduction of the nation’s heroes from all branches, Flyover, introduction of the founding members of the Veteran’s Farm Club, a patriotic performance by the 4-H Precision Horse Drill Team and benediction.  There will also be several historic and present day military displays.

Refreshments and a meet and greet session will follow the ceremony where fair-goers can meet and say thanks to those who have defended our nation’s freedoms.

All veterans and active duty military and a guest will be admitted free throughout the day which is also half price day for o thers attending the fair. 

In addition to the Veterans/Wounded Warriors appreciation ceremony, fair goers can enjoy o ther activities of the fair, including midway shows, free grandstand music from local musicians throughout the day, agricultural and home arts exhibits, o ther entertainment and food.

Founded in 1949, the Prince William County Fair was started by a group of Prince William veterans returning from World War II who wanted to highlight farming in the county.  Today, the Prince William County fair is the largest county fair in Virginia
