Event with Lead Sponsors Capital One, Toyota, and the National Guard to be Among Largest in Program's History; More than 100 Employers Expected

NEW YORK, NY—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s National Chamber Foundation, and lead sponsors Capital One Financial Corporation and Toyota, will celebrate the two-year anniversary of the Hiring Our Heroes program with “Hiring Our Heroes – New York,” a hiring fair for veterans and military spouses hosted by the New York Army National Guard at the 69th Regiment Armory.

More than 100 employers with jobs available for veterans and military spouses are expected to participate. Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer will deliver brief remarks about the launch of a new Personal Branding initiative, designed to help military veterans and transitioning servicemembers better market themselves to employers. Capital One will also provide a progress report on the Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign, a nationwide initiative to engage the business community in committing to hire half a million veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014.

Since its launch in March 2011, Hiring Our Heroes has been able to help nearly 100,000 veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. More than 14,000 of those hires came directly from more than 430 hiring fairs the program has held nationwide. An additional 80,000 veterans and military spouses have been hired as a part of Hiring 500,000 Heroes. Thus far, more than 800 businesses of all sizes have pledged to hire 214,000 heroes toward this goal.

The event will also include a free GE employment workshop that features one-on-one mentoring sessions on resume building, resume writing, and interviewing techniques for all job-seeking veterans and service member participants.
