U.S. Chamber to Launch Military Spouse Business Alliance

U.S. Chamber of CommerceProgram Will Address 26% Military Spouse Unemployment Rate and Career Advancement Issues

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes, with partners, will host the Military Spouse Career Forum, the largest-ever hiring fair exclusively for military and veteran spouses, at the Washington Convention Center.  More than 1,000 spouses and 100 Washington-area and national employers are expected to attend. At the event, Hiring Our Heroes will be launching the Military Spouse Business Alliance, which will improve the lives of working military spouses through a series of initiatives, including mentoring, entrepreneurial opportunities, and addressing licensing issues. The event will also kick off with a career forum, which will include résumé and interview workshops, small-group mentoring with senior women executives and military spouses, an entrepreneur’s pavilion, and image workshops.

Salt Lake Community College has joined a nationwide effort to honor American service men and women who have provided military service in Iraq and Afghanistan during the past decade. On Veterans Day, Friday, November 11, campus and community volunteers at more than 145 college and universities across the nation will read the names of the 6,200-plus casualties of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn.

The Veterans Resource Fair will be held in conjunction with the return of the Dignity® Memorial Vietnam Wall, a traveling ¾ scale replica of the original Wall in Washington, D.C. 


Redskins Timeout for Military and Veterans' Health

The Washington RedskinsThe Washington Redskins, GlaxoSmithKline and other Redskins health and wellness partner organizations will host the fourth annual Timeout for Veterans and Military Health event that will help veterans tackle chronic diseases by offering free health screenings on Saturday, Oct. 29 at FedExField.
